Hello!
My namy is Mateusz Szpytma. I dont speak and write English
good but I try.
I was born i Markowa and lived there for 19 years. Now I am
living for 9 years in Cracow because of my study and now work.
I finished my study I am master of history and im
working� in Cracow by Institut of
National Memory.
Also I am related to Ulma family - my grandmather was sister
of Wiktora Ulma.
Now I m the chief of committi, wchich build monument for
Ulmas family near Dom Ludowy.
I have an idea to invite Jews wchich survive (I heared about
two families) and theirs family to entry of this monument on 24 march 2004 - 60
years after.
I read about your father on Internet and I know that he was
born in Markowa. I can say that even we are neighbours - from his house� to my is about 700 metr.
If You can - show Your father this mail.

Thank You for Your Reply.
The Ulma family were poor peasants who were hiding Jews
during the War. Jewish family: Szall from Lancut and Goldman (Goldmans lived
before War on the cross road to Przewors and Kanczuga) from Markowa. Together 8
people. In the Ulma family there was 8 people too: Wiktora, Jozef and 6
children from 8 to 1 years old and Wiktria was pregnant in 9 months. They were
betreyed by ukrainian� policeman from
Lancut Le� and probably his confident from Markowa. All the murderers names are
known - 3 German gendarms from Lancut. One of them Kokot Jozef - Tschech, who
considered himself German was sentenced for it in 1958 - death sentence changed
into 25 years. He died in prison half year before the end of punishment.
I live in the direction to Kanchuga in the half way between
Your house and the church.
Your house was sold probably to firemen and is renewed.
The monumet - it will be a big stone withs the names on it.
In attachment Iam sending You a text - which is accepted by the authotities.
It will be founded by Markowa citizien, community of Markowa
and I hope by Rada Ochrone Pamieci Walk i Meczenstwa - government organization.
If Yoy could only come to the opening (I hope 24 march 2004)
You and Your sisters and children are welcomed. Yor familie is one of of these
two families and I didnt contact yet with the second one but I know they live
in USA because one family in Markowa keeps in touch with them.
Is it possible for me to write in Polish to you and you
reply in English?
Do you know any other families who survived in Markowa?
What do you think about idea of monument and is your comin
possible?
